bargrooves founder Ben Sowton’s reputation for the perfect finish precedes him. Whether he’s setting up a members’ bar, record label or indeed executing a DJ mix, Ben’s specifications are top drawer. He is the constant behind the bargrooves brand. His mixes are powered by tight, driving rhythms, light jazz touches and perfect head-spinning chords.
Here on the first disc of mimosa, he hand picks fine tunes from across continental Europe and the States before heading back to Blighty with the well-respected sounds of the Urban Torque and Club Sole labels. En route he makes pit-stops at some of the East Coast’s most reliable bastions of house music namely West End records, Soulfuric and Subliminal’s more organic sister label, Subliminal Soul. bargrooves connoisseurs need look no further.
Disc two introduces the first guests in the Taste & Tastemakers succession. The Groove Junkies are New York’s Evan Landes and Detroit’s Parrish Wintersmith, two musicians/DJs who have partnered together through a mutual love of soul, funk, jazz, gospel and Latin rhythms. Their passion for these warm, life-loving sounds shines through their first mix for bargrooves.
